Dashiell Hammett, BIG KNOCKOVER, 1st edition in jacket

New York: Random House, 1966. Octavo, cloth in dust jacket. First edition, first printing (stated). A groundbreaking anthology of Dashiell Hammett crime fiction, edited and introduced by the author’s long-time lover, playwright Lillian Hellman. It collects nine classic Continental Op stories (including the title yarn and its follow-up, “$106,000 Blood Money”) along with Hammett’s unfinished novel Tulip. No fan of hard-boiled pulp fiction should be without this important book. Condition: Fine in Near Fine jacket. A clean, tight, bright copy, very slightly bumped at spine heel. The jacket’s spine bottom is slightly crinkled as a result. Also an ever-so-slight trace of rubbing on the jackewt’s front panel (see scan). But overall a very sharp copy of this essential book.
