THE IMMORTAL STORM, Sam Moskowitz history of early SF fandom

Westport, CT: Hyperion Press, 1988. Octavo, hardcover without jacket as issued. Originally serialized over a period of several years in the fanzine Fantasy Commentator, this history of the first decade of science-fiction fandom (1930-1940) makes an immensely fascinating read. Moskowitz, an active participant who mentions himself in the third person, writes it in an often breathless manner, imparting to much of it a sense of sturm und drang to what essentially were silly feuds between socially maladroit adolescents. But he covers all the major players, many of whom became SF pros. This copy is the 1988 hardcover reprint in brown cloth with gold stamping on the spine. Fine condition.
