TOP-NOTCH, 1st February 1929, De Soto illustrations

The cover story, “Ghost of the Derelict,” is an excellent yarn about a movie company that commandeers a haunted windjammer for its film and runs into nothing but trouble. Other contributors include Frank Merriwell scribe Burt L. Standish (pen name, of course) and Albert M. Treynor, who with Phillips constituted the backbone of Top Notch‘s writing staff during this period in its long and storied history. This is the earlier of two back-to-back issues we’re selling here, and both are practically identical in shape. Condition: Let’s call it Very Good Plus to be on the conservative side. The extra-long overhangs have numerous small chips, tears, and creases, and the white front and back covers show some minor soiling. On balance, though, this is a good collectable copy with near-white text block and complete bright spine.
